NBTA is hiring! We’re looking for a paid Casework Co-ordinator, deadline 30th June

About Us:
The National Bargee Travellers Association (NBTA) is a volunteer organisation dedicated to upholding and defending the rights of itinerant boat dwellers on Britain’s inland and coastal waterways. We provide crucial support to boaters facing challenges related to enforcement, access to services, and other issues arising from living on a boat without a permanent mooring and/or fixed address. All caseworkers are volunteers and most are from the travelling boater dweller community. Learn more about our impactful work here.

The Opportunity:
We’re seeking a dedicated Casework Coordinator to manage our support system for boaters in need. This role is vital in ensuring that every boater who reaches out to NBTA receives timely and appropriate assistance. It’s also an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain valuable experience in community advocacy and social justice work, enhancing their CV with meaningful, impactful experience.

Key Responsibilities:
– Triage incoming enquiries and identify cases requiring caseworker assignment
– Assign caseworkers to boaters requesting help from NBTA, ensuring all cases are covered
– Develop a deep understanding of NBTA caseworkers’ experience, interests, and abilities to facilitate effective case assignment
– Encourage and manage monthly progress reports from caseworkers
– Solicit occasional case studies from caseworkers to support the development of casework practices
– Assist in the training and ongoing support of caseworkers

The Ideal Candidate:
– Passionate about social justice and boaters’ rights
– Excellent organisational and communication skills
– Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse individuals
– Experience of managing volunteers
– Experience in case management or similar coordinating roles (preferred)
– Familiarity with the challenges faced by boat dwellers (advantageous)
– Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
– Keen to build experience in community advocacy and rights-based work
