Grand Union Canal Transfer consultation, deadline 2nd April 2026

The statutory Public Consultation on the Grand Union Canal Transfer scheme (GUCT) has started. It ends at 11:59pm on Thursday 2nd April 2026. The NBTA encourages all itinerant liveaboard boaters, especially those who travel on the Coventry, North Oxford and Grand Union canals to respond. The NBTA supports the proposed water transfer scheme but we have concerns about the removal of viable 14-day towpath mooring space for the construction and/or operation of the scheme. Other issues include whether the flow rate of transferred water will make navigation, mooring and casting off difficult or dangerous. If you have travelled on the Llangollen canal, which is already used for water transfer, your experience would be valuable for the consultation as well. The consultation will include online and in-person events. See https://guctransfer.co.uk/consultation/ and also https://guctransfer.co.uk/guct-phase-two-public-consultation-events/
