Boaters can still fill the domestic water tanks of their boats in areas where a hosepipe ban is in place. A Temporary Use Ban (TUB), often called a ‘hosepipe’ ban, does not prevent anyone from using a hosepipe to fill a domestic water tank that provides water for drinking, cooking, washing and sanitary uses.

CRT boater census
CRT is carrying out its first boater census during August and September 2022 in order to better understand who is on its waterways and what their needs are. NBTA activist Dave Mendes da Costa, who is one of the boater representatives on the CRT Council, encourages liveaboard boaters to complete it.
CRT increases licence fees a second time this year
In an unprecedented move, Canal & River Trust (CRT) is increasing boat licence fees twice this year with another inflation-linked rise of 4% from 1st October 2022. This follows the 4% rise on 1st April 2022.
EA is recruiting to new National Waterways Advisory Group, deadline 14th August
In May 2022 the Environment Agency (EA) announced a new engagement model between the navigation authority and its customers on the waterways, which includes a new National Waterways Forum and a National Waterways Advisory Group. The EA is now recruiting for members of the National Waterways Advisory Group.

Live Well on the Water will take place at 11am-4pm on Friday 22nd July 2022 at the Anderton Boat Lift. It includes a Covid-19 vaccination clinic, health checks, refreshments, art and craft sessions and outdoor activities. Hundreds attend NBTA Hackney protest picnic
Hundreds of boaters, local residents and land-based supporters turned out on Sunday 26th of June to attend the NBTA’s Hackney Protest Picnic in a continued show of resistance to the Canal & River Trust’s (CRT) ongoing attacks on the capital’s liveaboard boating community.
