Oxford City Council recognises boats as affordable homes
In an astonishing U-turn compared to its previous anti-liveaboard policy, Oxford City Council voted to recognise boats as affordable housing in a meeting of the Council’s Cabinet on 9th December 2020.
NBTA presentation to All Party Parliamentary Waterways Group
On 8th June 2021, the NBTA gave a presentation to the All Party Parliamentary Waterways Group (APPWG) on the subject of ‘Living on the Water’. Canal & River Trust (CRT) and the Residential Boat Owners Association were also invited to give presentations. Each organisation was requested to state their three ‘key asks’ of Government.
Stop the boat cull in London – open air meeting 1st August
There will be an open air meeting and picnic to discuss further resistance to the boat cull and so-called ‘water safety zones’ mooring restrictions on the River Lea in London. The event will take place at 12 noon on Sunday 1st August at HereEast, Hackney, London E15 2GW. All are welcome.

CRT makes minor concessions on Boat Licence Terms and Conditions
CRT has made minor changes to the new Boat Licence Terms and Conditions (T&C) in response to the NBTA’s Pre-Action protocol letter of 31st May 2021, but has not altered its position on the major issues challenged by the NBTA.
EA extends draconian mooring fines and plans development of ‘wild moorings’ for profit
At the end of April 2021 the Environment Agency (EA) resumed enforcement of the draconian restrictions and fines on its own visitor moorings on the River Thames, having appointed the discredited sub-contractor District Enforcement (DE) to police these in September 2020.
