DEFRA survey of what boaters burn in their stoves – deadline extended to 7th November
The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) is running an online survey to “understand the use of solid fuels within the inland boating community”. The survey is voluntary, confidential and anonymous. The deadline has been extended to 7th November.

CRT enforcement restructure live
CRT’s restructure of its enforcement team went live on about 5th September 2024. The main enforcement team is now called “Boat Licensing, Compliance & Enforcement Team”. Surcharge, real financial cost in 5 years?
With some confusion and a seeming lack of wide alarm at a 5% rising to 25% surcharge on boats without home moorings, CRT’s ‘glide path’, which introduces incremental and differential licence fee pricing between now and 2028, could well be intentionally deceptive.
